The pressure cell consists of 2 rectangular or square steel plates welded together around the perimeter and separated inside by a small cavity filled with special not aerated oil. The oil is connected to an electrical transducer that converts every pressure change that acts on the cell into a variation in the electrical signal.
The instrument is supplied with the transducer connected straight to the cell plate with a valve and rilsan tube allowing it to be re-pressurized by a special pump. The re-pressurizing is required when the sensitive plate no longer touches the element whose pressure must be measured.
The cell is used for controlling radial and tangential pressure on tunnel linings and for monitoring the pressure in foundations, dams and bridges. It can also be used for measuring the pressure exercised in the drilling or for checking the pressure exercised between a retaining construction and squeezing rock.
